Healthy Donuts At Dunkin’ Donuts?

Last Updated on

dunkin donuts healthy donutsHave you ever wondered if there was such a thing as a healthy doughnut?

Ok, doughnuts, or as some people call them, “donuts”, are not particularly known for their health benefits (Livestrong, “Health Effects Of Doughnuts”, 2014) and, lets face it, we all kind of knew that.

To get specific, your average medium-sized donut is about 250 calories, and if its a larger donut, then you can add 100 calories on to that.

Just for some perspective, reputable sources like runnersworld say that if you run on a treadmill (or outside for that matter) for about 10 minutes, you burn about 100 calories. Of course, this isn’t a hard fact that applies to all human beings.  It will depend on your size, gender, etc.

What it boils down to is that if you give into the desire to mow down on that medium-sized delectable, that’s gonna require 25 minutes of brisk jogging roughly to take away what you’ve just added.  Eesh!  That does not seem fair, but no one said it was.

Living in Montreal here in Quebec, Canada, there are a number of Dunkin Donuts here which I like to frequent, mainly for their coffee, which I actually am a big fan of.

My favourite DD is actually the one located at 5825 Henri Bourassa West.

I did a bit of research, just to see what the damage was calorie-wise, as far as some of their top-selling donuts are concerned…here’s the Top 6 Healthiest Dunkin’ Donuts err..doughnuts that they sell.

To be honest, I do have a thing for each of these donuts, <sigh>, so it hurts my soul to know that they just aren’t too healthy, and requires a run around the block / neighbourhood to burn off just one of them.

If it makes you feel any better, from the looks of it, most of the items you buy at McDonald’s add up to more calories than any of these donuts.  Not that you’re going to skip lunch and eat a donut instead.  Plus, its not just about the calorie count, but the saturated fats, etc.

This article wasn’t written to state the obvious – that donuts are not generally healthy, but if you were wondering some of them had less calories than others, now you know!
